If your child has emotional and/or psychiatric problems that interfere with functioning in school, help is available. We urge you to consult with their school counselor and/or the school district regarding next steps. Your child may be eligible for special education services to help them succeed in school.
The UCSF Health St. Mary's Hospital McAuley Counseling Enriched Education Program (CEEP) is an outpatient program offered jointly by St. Mary's Adolescent Psychiatric Services, the San Francisco Department of Public Health-Behavioral Health Services, and the San Francisco Unified School District.
Our program includes:
- Comprehensive evaluation
- Ongoing intensive therapy and treatment
- Educational services for adolescents who are unable to successfully participate in comprehensive community-based academic programs and outpatient therapeutic services
Helping Your Child Succeed In School
The services your child needs will be determined through an assessment and planning process that involves:
- Parents/guardians
- Teachers
- School administrators
- Other special education providers
Together, these people can develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for your child and determine if he/she is eligible for Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS).
Our services are one of the many options the San Francisco Unified School District may explore.
You can visit the school district's website at or call the office at (415) 241-6085 to find out more about how to initiate the IEP process with the San Francisco Unified School District. You can also learn the options for supporting your child's combined educational and mental health needs.
We use the SFUSD's academic Extended School Year (ESY) calendar. Our staff is on site Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., excluding holidays and school vacation periods.
Participants in our program must be San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) students. Participants must be referred to the program through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). IEPs are established with your childâs home school or the school district.
