At UCSF Health St. Mary's Hospital, our chaplains represent a variety of faith traditions and are available 24/7 to support hospitalized patients and their loved ones – whatever their spiritual orientation may be.
If you belong to a faith community, we can help arrange visits or phone calls with congregational leaders or others in that community.
Why request spiritual care?
Spiritual needs are different for everyone and may be deeply personal. They range from learning to cope with sorrow and loss to repairing relationships, facing medical challenges, or dealing with anxiety or fear – to name just a few possibilities.
Our chaplains offer compassionate counseling for patients and their loved ones. They may also lead or help with individual and family celebrations, prayers, and rituals that take place at the hospital.
How to reach a chaplain
To arrange a meeting with a chaplain, patients and families can dial extension 5718 from a hospital phone or dial (415) 750-5718 on a personal phone. Or ask a nurse, social worker or other member of staff to call Spiritual Care Services for you.
